Hello,
My name is Emily Vasica. I am a mother of 4 beautiful children and I am married to a wonderful supportive husband. I love anything outdoors, scrap-booking, my faith, and most of all being with my family. I was first introduced to Signing Time through a mutual acquaintance of mine 6 years ago. I was absolutely amazed that she and her 9 month old daughter were communicating to each other so clearly. Long story short after raising two kids of my own at that time, I had to know more about this Signing Time thing that made her daughter seem so much happier then my two had ever been as babies. So my two children and I started watching the shows on TV. I was amazed at how quickly my children who at the time were 3 and 6 were picking up on the signing and were learning the songs just after watching the show one time. Not only did they learn it quickly but so did I. I found myself walking around the house singing and signing the songs all the time, they are so catchy. I knew if I ever had more children I would do it with them from day one.
About two years later I opened a preschool, I knew that signing had to be a part of my curriculum for those kids. It has been amazing to watch even before I became an Instructor for Signing Time, I had the kids signing based on what I had learned and they love it.
About 6 months later I gave birth to twins, they were 9 weeks early and I was told that they would be very delayed and have a really hard time with speech and physical development. I started signing with them from day one of when they got home from the hospital. It wasn't long after, maybe about when they were 6 months that I could tell they understood everything I was saying. If they started crying I would start going down the list of my basic words "Eat, Milk, Sleep, drink, all done & Outside" I learned those were the things they wanted, anyway unless they were physically hurt they would immediately stop crying when I signed the word they wanted. It was amazing. Not to long after, I started noticing their hand gestures and realized they were trying to sign to me. Today 2 years later they now sign everything, there is not a single thing they can't tell me and not only are they signing everything they are now saying every single word they learn to sign. They are talking all the time and proving the doctors wrong.
As I was teaching preschool and my twins I keep bugging a friend of mine trying to find out if Signing Time would every have a curriculum for preschool. Finally one day I found out that not only do they now have a classroom Edition and a Baby curriculum but I could become an Instructor! I got right on everything that needed to be done and the rest is history.
Once I became an official Instructor I started teaching broken down parts of the "Signing Time Classroom Edition" to my preschool students. They absolutely love it! We also now do our Singing and Signing Programs which are incredible. These kids have learned 6 full songs & there signs all in one month. It has been amazing to watch and to be a part of. I am now teaching at the J.L. Sorenson Rec Center in Herriman Utah so I hope to see you all there for our fun and exciting classes.
